Success is elusive, as everyone knows, and hopes are often beautiful yet brittle. But is there anything everyone strives hard to cling onto? Yes, our dreams, however wild, novel they are, because they beckon success and a world we all design. The fact is, we are often convinced that there are dreams or ambitions that will never materialised, as far as we are able to witness. It sounds true, but after coming across this melodious song entitled "A Million Dreams", performed by "The Greatest Showman" ensemble, I have since ditched that thought.
It is important to note that dreams are the architects of our own, unique future. "A Million Dreams" begins with a vengeance: "I think of what the world could be, A vision of the one I see, We can live in a world that we design." We all yearn to land ourselves in a utopia, don't we? But some may question, isn't resources and time that truly count? They all do, but they are not alone. Accompanying them are our sci-fi dreams that will one day materialize. But what if we have no ambitions at all? With no ambitions, we are just going to pointlessly follow the herd. For example, when people flock to the stock market to gain a financial toehold, we would also follow, but also with nothing of your choice achieved. So for the sake of a mesmerising paradise, we need our own unique dreams. They vary from one person to another -- from getting a dream job, like being a world-renowned artist, a musician, a politician, to having a lifelong partner, to goals like trying scuba-diving, visiting North Korea, running non-stop for one hour, etc. And with them, we will have our own future within reach because they are what we aim to accomplish, and accomplishing it is just like decorating our own place for festivities. With all the dreams accomplished, we will land ourselves in a magnificent palace awash with a sea of roses and festive lights where we will enjoy the rest of our lives.
When catching our dreams, never should we let criticism or doubt kill our dreams. As the lyrics go, "They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy...I don't care, I don't care if they call us crazy." Undeniably, there are sceptics who relentlessly criticise those pursuing their seemingly novel ambitions. Among those once belting out "A Million Dreams" on the international stage is the larger-than-life British Singer, Susan Boyle. Never underrate her, though. For the record, at the age of 48, she debuted on Britain's Got Talent in 2009 with her signature "I Dreamed a Dream". As expected, both the audience and the four judges looked askance as they doubted her ability to sing when compared with fresh-faced, ebullient singers. But as her superb, lovely voice reverberated across the London Palladium, BGT enthusiasts below applauded, as did the four judges. And the show ended up propelling her to international fame and success. Do not forget: Accomplished singers nowadays like Celine Dion mostly began their career in their teens or twenties. But Boyle's example serves as the epitome of dreams as she boldly proved that others' doubt never matters. She never called it quits despite others' criticism, because she knew, even with her dreams apparently impossible, she would sparkle in her own right. If she can do it, so can we! Once again, our age never matters. Even with others belittling us, should we retreat? No, it is our passion and perseverance that utterly count. Even if one is trying to follow in the footsteps of scientists like Albert Einstein, actors such as Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio and Quentin Tarentino, and writers like Shakespeare, they will one day succeed, not with others' criticism or doubt, but with his/her passion and endurance.
As a powerful end, take it from me: Chasing our dreams always makes us the masters of "a world we design", and never allow others' criticism to wipe out your dreams, because you know what your ultimate goals are. Remember: Chase your dreams, and you will beam! Let's go!
