RE: Application for the Position of Travel Guidebook Editor
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am now writing to apply for the position of Travel Guidebook Editor.
Throughout my four years in the University of Hong Kong that culminated with a Bachelor in Editorial Journalism back in 2015, I have grasped the skills of paraphrasing and elaborating on news articles in a succinct and unbiased fashion.
It is noteworthy that, to utilise my news editing skills, I once joined your company’s internship programme in 2015 right after graduation, which offered me indispensable working experience – having visited New York, the famed Champs Elysees in Paris and even the Maldives. I even contributed to your company’s much-touted “Be Water” book. With that, I am largely familiar with your company’s hierarchy and spirit of engagement among worker. But it was only until I accepted a job offer from NBC News to work as an international news correspondent that I began traversing every nook and cranny of the world. I covered a variety of topics, the most enchanting of which goes to leisure spots given I had to strike an impeccable balance between my weekly interviews and writing tasks for Nightly News and enjoying the enticing landmarks. The magnificent island of Santorini in Greece entirely mesmerised me because of the azure skies and quaint castles, as did Italy’s ancient Colosseum. I even presided over the production of one NBC documentary about Italy’s sacred Colosseum that included the diary entries I penned during my stay there. I have gained much expertise in not only forging work-life balance, but also meticulously organising a battery of writings so that they can pieced together and transformed into enthralling stories. Sadly, my tenure at NBC ended in 2020 as the pandemic struck. That was when I turned to TVB News here in Hong Kong and became a sub-Editor for Pearl. I edited an array of international news stories and advised the local news reporters on their writing style so as to rivet our viewers. Presently, I am an assistant editor for the government’s Information Services Department (ISD).
I have attached my resume to this letter as a gesture of genuine interest. It is my firm belief that, as an altruistic team player and accomplished writer, I can overcome the hurdles of being a travel guidebook editor and propel your company to success. Please kindly grant me an opportunity to be interviewed. I anticipate your favourable response.
Yours faithfully,
Lucas Lee
